Your First Visit
Your first visit to our office is a chance for us to get acquainted in order to look at the long-term needs for you or your child. Upon your arrival our receptionist will assist you getting checked in. Our patient treatment coordinator will then escort you or your child to our consultation room for your first visit. Dr. Wendfeldt will perform a comprehensive orthodontic examination which allows the doctor to determine the basic nature of your orthodontic needs and to answer any orthodontic questions you may have. Dr. Wendfeldt will perform a thorough dental exam focusing on your bite, facial profile, and dental development.
At this visit, one of three outcomes will be determined:
- Treatment is needed now
- Treatment is not needed at all
- Treatment will be needed, but the timing is such that it should be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption, or other factors are monitored and reconciled
If treatment is indicated, diagnostic records, including photographs, orthodontic X-rays and study models, can be taken at this time. From this information, a customized treatment plan will be developed and thoroughly discussed with you. This discussion will include the length of treatment and approximate fee.
Prior to your first visit, please take time to complete the patient information forms, which can be downloaded and printed from the Forms page of this web site. Our staff can send all forms to your home or office mailing address if you prefer. Completing these forms prior to your arrival can begin your first visit without delay. If you have orthodontic insurance coverage, please bring the paperwork so that we may assist you in filing for reimbursement from your insurance carrier.
We encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to your first visit and ask the following questions:
- Do I have orthodontic coverage?
- What are my benefits?
- Is a pre-treatment estimate required?
- Does the insurance company pay automatically?
- Does my insurance coverage pay fully in advance or by installment?
- If paid by installment, do I need to resubmit an invoice after each visit, quarter, etc?
